How to Fix Cable/DSL Internet authentication (password).

First Switch Off every thing.  The computer, the Router, and the Modem, every thing Off.

Wait 2 minutes and Switch On the modem  wait another two minutes (The Lights on the Modem should show that there is a live solid connection).

Switch On the Router wait and 1-2minutes, then Switch On the computer.

This process allows the ISP system to reset and adjust to your changes.

If it did not help it might be an authentication issue.

Internet Service Providers (ISP) use a variety of connection authentication to reduce Internet signal theft.

Without proper authentication you can not log to your Internet service.
Few ISPs might periodically authenticate while you are On and already using the Internet connection.  The periodical checking might vary from every few hours to few every weeks.

Many users that make changes (software and hardware) are unaware that they might change the authentication parameters. Some times it results in immediate interruption of Internet service.

However, at times the Internet will keep working after the changes and will stop after a while when the next authentication event kicks in.

As a result users are suddenly befuddled mot under standing what happened to their connection.

Cable Connection.

Many Internet Cable providers use the MAC number of the computer that was first connected to the Cable system as a form of authentication (Password).

It is common to experience a sudden interruption of service if you changed Network related Hardware, like installing or changing a Cable/DSL Router, or Network Card (NIC).

What to do?

First connect the original computer Directly to the Broadband Modem (the original computer is the one that was used when initially the service was established).

Make sure that your Internet connection is  working.

Be warned if you can not establish a solid Internet connection between the original computer and the Cable Modem it will not work with the Router either.

If the computer is connected directly to the modem and you do not get a solid  Internet Connection.
Check your Network's Settings,  if they turn to be correct, call your Internet Service Provider and insist that they should help you.

Once you have a functional Internet connection working with a single computer, connected the system through the Router and Clone the MAC number of the working computer’s NIC to the Router.

Q:  Clone?  I heard about cloning sheep not MACs.

A:  Since a Router comes with his own MAC number your ISP reads it, thinks that someone is trying to Steal the Signal, and disconnects the service. Cloning the MAC assigns the working computer MAC to the Router.

All current Cable/DSL Routers provides a menu entry that will allow you to Clone the MAC number of the Registered NIC.  Thus the MAC number of the main computer's NIC becomes the MAC number of the Router.

Q:  What MAC number I should Use?

A:  The one of the computer that works well when it is connected directly to the Cable Modem.

Q:  I heard about MAC trucks, but do not know how to find Network Card MAC?
